Not to be confused with indoor swings, doorway jumpers are swings that are designed to genuinely hand in a doorway for babies and toddlers to jump up and down or swing in. You hook it onto the door frame with a special spring loaded mechanism, toss your wee one into it and watch them bounce up and down and laugh and laugh and laugh. Well, that is until the crying starts when the become overstimulated and they want to get out. It’s hard to be little you know!
Both the Boys and The Princess went through a phase where they loved what we affectionately called the Wally Wumper, since when the out of control, the swing on occasion bounced versus the door frame.
Apparently there was an original company called “Jolly Jumper” that might be no longer in business, at least in the sense that I can’t find any precise info in regards to them on the web, nor any place that genuinely has any of their productions for sale. I’m guessing they were purchased by a good deal of other toddler swing manufacturer at galore point. Amazon has listing for a toddler bouncy seat from a “Jolly Jumper” company, but it’s long since unavailable.
There is always a debate whether any toy or item that helps a baby to stand up is good for their long term coordination and capacity to learn to walk. My take is that as long as they aren’t spending hours a day in it, it’s probably fine, particularly for 15-30 minute stretches. The sure do seem to get a kick out of them.
What are the top picks out there for doorway jumpers? The undisputed king doorway jumper is the Graco Bumper Jumper. Ours help up amazingly well through all three kids, then without apparent effort fetched $15 at our yard sale at the beginning of the summer. It’s sturdy, attaches effortlessly to almost all door frames, has handles for the little one to hang on while bouncing and is without apparent effort adjustable. Probably the best feature is the bumper car type rubber sidewall that goes all the way around the bouncer. If there are any accidental wall impacts, they’re going to bounce right off. If budget is an issue and the $32 for the Graco is out of your toddler jumper price range, the next best is the Evenflo Jump Up. At only $19.99, it’s a good value, but without the hard bumper sides, your little one might be in for a heap of bumps on the wall.
Note, the Evenflo is also available in Pink for that little jumping princess if color corresponding is an issue.

Best cash we’ve expended on a baby “toy” so far! By TSK My 6 month old daughter loves this jumper! She may not get sufficient of bouncing up and down. The toy affixations are outstanding and keep her even more occupied. We’ve tried other jumpers at friends’ houses and they are not the same. I suspect it’s the toys hanging off the sides -just when she starts to get a little tired of the seat she’ll “find” one of the toys and she’s back jumping away. She’ll happily bounce, spun and coo away giving me sufficient time to get dinner ready. My biggest complaint with this jumper is attempting to get her out of it. It’s a challenge because of the fabric seat and the bar over head, but it’s easy to get the hang of it. I would buy this again in an instant. We joke it’s the best thing we’ve purchased for her so far.

out of control! By Sometrouble I will be returning this jumper and looking for a dissimilar model. We have a fisher price stand alone jumper…and my 6 month old son loves it. I thought he would love this too. Not so much. He leans to one side or the other and then only one foot it on the ground causing him to spun out of control like a teetering top. There is scarcely any spring in it, so when he tries to bounce he just swings crazily in a circle. I tried everything…making it taller, making it shorter…nothing helped. After a few minutes he bonked his head on the doorframe of our super-wide double doorway (I had it hung in the middle). That was the end of that. I would commend a jumper with a stand like a jumperoo or one without the horizontal bar construction that this one has, it seems like that is what makes it so unsteady.

Just what I wanted! By KatieRose Thompson My Mom and I got this for my niece. This is precisely what we were looking for, and it was a great price. If you are looking for a “Johnny Jump Up” but this is the best one I found. The colors are bright may be used for a boy or girl which is a plus for grandparents. There are toys attached to it so the baby may play. The toys are teethers, rattlers and the mirror is great. It is easy to use and easy to get the baby out of. I couldn’t have asked for a better jump up!
